Bloomsburg Softball Eliminated From PSAC Playoffs

KUTZTOWN--The Bloomsburg University softball team's quest for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship ended on Saturday when the Huskies lost to Lock Haven, 3-1.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first; then made it 2-0 with a run in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, the Huskies loaded the bases with a chance to get on the board. With one out, Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) singled and Melissa Leeper (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) walked. After a strikeout, Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) reached on an infield single to load the bases. However, Lock Haven pitcher Kristin Erb got a flyout to end the threat.

Lock Haven made it 3-0 with a run in the bottom of the fifth before the Huskies got on the board in the sixth. In the top of the sixth, with one out, Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) walked with Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown) coming in to run. Pinch-hitter Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton), reached on an error with Massimini going to second. Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) then singled scoring Massimini. However, on the play, pinch-runner Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Philipsburg-Osceola) was thrown out at third to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, the Huskies went down 1-2-3 to end the game. Reed finished 2-4, while Corliss was 1-3 with an RBI. Pitcher Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) took the loss going 3 1/3 innings and striking out six.

Bloomsburg, 35-13, will await word next week on a berth in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional championships.
